Recent awards

Deafness Research UK funds high-quality research after a rigorous grant application process.

Small project awards are generally made on a quarterly basis at our research committee meeting.  At our last meeting at the end of January 2012 two awards were approved:

  • Small project to Mr Jaydip Ray, Royal Hallamshire NHS Trust, Sheffield to fund a resource to study the genetics of age-related hearing loss.
  • Equipment grant to Dr Jonathan Gale, UCL Ear Institute to purchase a ProScan system for his Zeiss Axiovert microscope to allow him to analyse multiple regions of interest in living tissue in 5 dimensions.

In January 2012 we also announced two PhD studentship projects selected from our annual competitive round:

  • Professor Ian Forsythe, University of Leicester, ‘The influence of acoustic trauma on central auditory processing’
  • Dr Jennifer Linden, UCL Ear Institute, ‘Neural Abnormalities in a Mouse Model of Auditory Temporal Processing Deficit’

Both these projects begin in October 2012.
