Deafness Research UK funds fellowships at the Cambridge Auditory Centre of Excellence

Deafness Research UK is pleased to announce funding of two fellowships in the laboratory of Professor Brian Moore at Cambridge University.

Dr. Phillip Gander of the NIHR National Biomedical Research Unit in Hearing, Nottingham has been awarded the Deafness Research UK’s 2011 Pauline Ashley Prize.

Recent advances in molecular biology of otology seminar 2011

RAPA 2010

Following the success last year of the first Recent Advances in Paediatric Audiology (RAPA) meeting, which was designed specifically to increase interaction and knowledge sharing between the clinic and the laboratory in the field of paediatric audiology, a second RAPA meeting was held in London in March as part of the NHS National Knowledge Week for Hearing.

The Deafness Research UK Pauline Ashley Prize 2010 has been awarded to Nick Leach, a PhD student at the University of Oxford, for his highly commended and ongoing research into how the hearing brain adapts to different sounds.

BSA 2008 – Conference report

Last month saw the annual British Society of Audiology (BSA) Short Papers Meeting of Experimental Studies on Hearing and Deafness. The UK’s hearing research community descended on the Psychology Department at the University of York for two days of talks, poster presentations and catching-up with the latest experimental data.

Young audiologist finds the right note

31 January 2008 :
Deafness Research UK recently awarded a scholarship to Salma Mahmood, an audiology student at Aston University, to study the way in which the brain processes echoes. The work, carried out with Dr Bernhard Seeber at Nottingham's MRC Institute of Hearing Research, is important for understanding how we localize sounds indoors.

This year's Pauline Ashley Prize has been awarded to Dr Lucy Anderson, a junior postdoctoral researcher working at University College London's Ear Institute.

The Pauline Ashley Prize 2007 has been awarded to Sam Irving, a young researcher at the MRC Institute for Hearing Research in Nottingham, who is looking for the region of the brain that helps us to hear someone in a noisy place, such as a party or bar, and is responsible for 'training' the brain to hear better in these situations.
