International symposium puts children's hearing on the agenda

Deafness Research UK is sponsoring the Recent Advances in Paediatric Audiology (RAPA) symposium, to be held on 15th March 2010 to coincide with the National Knowledge Week for Hearing. A Modern Approach to Noise-Induced Hearing Loss from Military Operations

'A Modern Approach to Noise-Induced Hearing Loss from Military Operations' brought together interested parties from the armed forces, the NHS, academic research and the voluntary sector to share and update knowledge of the science relevant to noise induced hearing loss and the practical problems faced during military operations.

Deafness Research UK held a groundbreaking children’s audiology forum on 16th March at the New Connaught Rooms in London. Recent advances in paediatric audiology (RAPA) was the first of what is hoped will become an annual event to mark National Knowledge Week for Hearing.

The Pauline Ashley Prize 2007 has been awarded to Sam Irving, a young researcher at the MRC Institute for Hearing Research in Nottingham, who is looking for the region of the brain that helps us to hear someone in a noisy place, such as a party or bar, and is responsible for 'training' the brain to hear better in these situations.Pauline Ashley Prize 2006
