Hearing Aids: Are you getting the best from the NHS?

Are you finding it harder to hear certain sounds? Do you think you may need a hearing aid? Are you on the waiting list for an NHS hearing aid? Or is someone in your family finding it harder to hear?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you'll benefit from Deafness Research UK's latest factsheet, on how to get the most out of your NHS hearing aid.

A lot of progress has been made toward improving audiology services with the roll-out of NHS digital hearing aids throughout England due for completion early next year, but waiting lists in some areas are very long.

Deafness Research UK has identified that patients could benefit from guidelines about what they should expect from their new hearing aid and from their audiologist.

To ensure people get the best possible service from the NHS, and make the most of their hearing aid, Deafness Research UK has put together a factsheet to help prepare people for their audiology experience.

Getting a hearing aid on the NHS? outlines the process - from visiting your family doctor to getting used to a hearing aid, including what people should expect from the service and their hearing aid, and where the latest technology is headed.

"With its input from some of the UK's leading hearing aid researchers and audiologists, this factsheet gives guidance to people who are waiting for their first appointment with an audiologist and want to be as prepared as possible, or to people who think they may have a hearing loss but haven't yet done anything about it, as well as their friends and families," says Geraldine Oliver, Deafness Research UK Head of Information.
