Annual Review
Like the conditions themselves, research into deafness and hearing problems is diverse and complex. It involves scientists and clinicians from a range of disciplines – from molecular biology to experimental psychology and engineering. In the past it is this diversity that has held back progress. Now we believe it holds the key to success.
Fortunately, this charity's close links with both hearing impaired people and the research community mean that we are uniquely placed to shape the future of research in this country and we are determined to ensure that it is a future that will really make a difference for deaf and hearing impaired people everywhere.
Nearly every family in the country is affected by hearing problems and, as the only national charity focussed on tackling this through research, we have a great responsibility. But the message of this Review is one more of hope than of crisis.
The future holds great promise and we know that, with your support, it can be realised. This year, thanks to an exceptional legacy and generous donations from a number of committed supporters, we have been able to fund important projects that otherwise could not have happened.
