A continuous whooshing sound
Dave Booth, 60, from Grimsby, has had tinnitus for more than twenty years and says he has just had to learn to live with it.
"I went to see my GP about my tinnitus and he was very understanding. He referred me to a specialist who ordered an MRI scan. The scan showed that there was no apparent medical reason for the tinnitus but nothing more.
"The tinnitus sounds just like a continuous whooshing sound and sometimes I noises like a bell ringing too.
"It is not so bad when I am at work during the day but is at its worst at night time when I am trying to sleep, when it is quiet and the noises seem amplified.
"The specialist recommended that I went to a TRT (Tinnitus Retraining Therapy) group at the hospital but, being self-employed, it is difficult for me to take the time out to attend these sessions."
