A great year for the Bionic Ear
2 December 2008
The Bionic Ear Show is designed to raise awareness of the importance of hearing, how it can be damaged, and what you can do to protect it. It features live, interactive science in which the presenters demonstrate a model of the hearing system using giant props, which when put together measure 22 feet in length.
The show is suitable for all ages, but specifically aimed at schoolchildren, people exposed to high levels of noise through leisure activities or at work, and older people – and can be tailored to meet the needs of different audiences.
We had aimed to reach a total audience of 10,000 people in the first year, and to date we have exceeded that with a fantastic total of over 13,000 seeing the show. We have travelled the length and breadth of Britain, with shows ranging from the very north of Scotland to the south coast of England – and our van clocking up more than 8,000 miles in the process.
Feedback has been extremely positive. Colin Johnson OBE, Vice-President (Young People's Programmes), The British Association for the Advancement of Science told us that the Bionic Ear Show was "One of the best educational shows I've seen in years ... exemplary in content, visual presentation and delivery."
Thanks to everyone for your interest and support!
