Sir George Martin event a great success

20 May 2010

Deafness Research UK's recent fundraiser, 'Sir George Martin in conversation with Andrew Marr', raised over £26,000 for the charity and won hugely favourable reviews from audience members.

Kings Place, one of London's top new events and exhibition venues, kindly donated space to the charity for the evening which began with a VIP drinks reception hosted by Andrew Marr and made even more special when Sir George made a surprise appearance to mingle with guests. The main event saw Sir George responding to Andrew Marr's questions with spellbinding anecdotes and humorous stories from his prestigious recording career, including tales of times with The Beatles.

A real bonus for all the Beatles' fans in the audience was the presence of Sir Paul McCartney, who made a quiet and unexpected appearance in the audience just before the interview commenced!

Sir George then thrilled the audience by answering their individual questions, followed by an auction of items donated by both Andrew and Sir George. Auction items included a signed and customized Ringo Starr drum head, and a limited edition lithograph of the score of ‘Yesterday’ hand signed by both Sir George and Sir Paul McCartney, which sold for over £10,500.

Truly a magical night to remember for all, as well as being an excellent fundraising event.
